In a town known for comedy, you’re marginally forgiven if you didn’t make it out to a stand up set this Winter. It was cold. It snowed a couple times. “Taboo” was disappointing, but you’d follow Tom Hardy into a wood chipper—you weren’t going to just not watch.

This Spring, there’s no excuse. An embarrassment of funny-men-and-women are gracing Greater Boston with their comedic chops. If none of these acts tickle your fancy, allow us the pleasure of a virtual reprimand. Bad reader.

Tom Segura

The Cincinnati native cracked up the House of Blues in early February, and now he’s back to finish the job. “I live in Los Angeles,” he once riffed, “which is just like wherever you live. If wherever you live is jail.” Segura’s mostly inanimate stage presence compliments his methodical, carefully inflected delivery, and if you’re unfamiliar with his anecdotes, do an online search for “Tom Segura GHB coma.” It’s about the time he took too much GHB and ended up in a coma. He does it better than we do.

Brad Williams

Perhaps the least known—and certainly the smallest—performer on the list, Williams makes more than the most of his dwarfism. His Showtime Special “Fun Size” was the highest rated show on that network, and his podcast “About Last Night” has also experienced considerable success. For a guy who got his start opening for Carlos Mencia, he is, ironically enough, way funnier than Carlos Mencia.

Ron White

Deadpan debauchery. The phrase (we just made it up) has become synonymous (it just did) with Ron White. The Comedy Central dynamo has come a long way since the Blue Collar Comedy tour, but you wouldn’t know it listening to him. “One DWI was a bogus charge,” he once told an audience, “because it turns out they were stopping every vehicle traveling down that particular sidewalk.” March 24th, all sidewalks lead to the Wilbur.

Carol Burnett

Winner of 23 Emmy’s, Carol Burnett hasn’t much left to prove—just that, at the age of 83, she’s the gift that keeps on giving. Her Spring tour promises a unique format in which, much like the opening segment of “The Carol Burnett Show,” audience members engage with Burnett in an organic, unscriptedtête-à-tête.
Sat, Apr. 8 @ 7:30 PM, The Wang Theatre, 270 Tremont St.

Sarah Silverman

Don’t hold her subpar treatment of Ned Schneebly in “School of Rock” against her—Sarah Silverman more than makes up for it on stage. A keen eye for contradiction informs Silverman’s humor—take a recent tweet, for instance, which reads, “My hair. Smells like my dog’s butt.” Imagine what she can do with more than 140 characters.
