PHOTOS: Franklin Park Zoo welcomes baby Nigerian dwarf goat

There’s a new kid in town and she resides at the Franklin Park Zoo.

A Nigerian dwarf goat named Leia gave birth inside a barn at Franklin Park Zoo’s Franklin Farm early Tuesday morning. Her kid’s name —Chewbacca.

Just after birth the adorable baby goat was standing and was seen nursing. This is Leia’s second kid with Lucky, a male Nigerian dwarf goat that also resides at the farm.

“We are thrilled to share the news of this birth and we hope people will stop by during this school vacation week to see this adorable new addition,” said John Linehan, Zoo New England President and CEO.

Chewbacca currently weighs four pounds, zoo officials said.

Nigerian dwarf goats are known for their wide range of color patterns, which include different combinations of black, brown or gold mixed with white. They have easy-going personalities; most Nigerian dwarf goats have been domesticated as dairy goats and can be found all over the world.
