Google manager from NYC killed in Massachusetts woods: Police

A 27-year-old woman’s body was found in a wooded area near Princeton, Massachusetts, after she was reported missing when she did not return from a jog.

On Sunday evening, police were searching for Vanessa Marcotte, who was visiting her mother in Princeton from her home in New York City, when authorities found her body in the woods about half a mile from her family’s house, CBS Boston reported. An initial investigation indicated that Marcotte, who waslast seen onBrooks Station Road, was killed between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

“A preliminary review of the body has led detectives to believe this is a homicide investigation,” Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said to WCVB. “We do not know if this is a random act.”

Investigators said Marcotte was sexually assaulted and set on fire, a source said, Fox 25 Boston reported.

Marcotte, an account manager at Google, grew up in nearby Leominster, according to WCVB. She had been reported missing for about seven hours by the time her body was discovered around 8 p.m.

“Please use an abundance of caution,” Early was quoted by CBS Boston. “Right now we have a very active investigation going on – you can’t be too careful.”
