A slew of luminaries, including President Barack Obama, will speak at the formal dedication of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate (EMK Institute) Monday at Columbia Point in Dorchester.

The president is expected to make remarks, along with Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State John Kerry, U.S. John McCain and Gov. Charlie Baker. Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, both of the U.S. Senators from Massachusetts — Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey — and members of the Kennedy family are also expected to speak.

The institute, which will be open to the public on Tuesday and is named after the state’s longtime senator who died in 2009, aims to educate the public about the U.S. Senate’s role in American government, encourage participatory democracy and foster civil discourse.

UMass Boston will be closed Monday due to the president’s visit.
