State police arrested a Cambridge man in connection with the June 1 assault of an elderly man in an East Boston park.

Police said a 67-year-old Lynn man was beaten on Belle Isle Marsh Reservation on June 1. On Thursday, investigators announced that Michael Bruzzese, 51, faces charges of assault and battery on a person over 60, breaking and entering of a vehicle during daytime, larceny, and unarmed robbery on a person over 60, the Boston Herald reported.

The 67-year-old’s assault came the same day 83-year-old Daniel Pepe died after a similar attack at the park days earlier, on May 29. Police sent out a warning after linking the two similar cases. Both attacks happened mid-afternoon near the same set of benches, police said.

But Bruzzese’s charges relate only to the June 1 assault, according to police.

Bruzzese, who is currently on probation for a breaking and entering conviction, will be arraigned Friday, ABC 5 reported.
