A 22-year-old Jamaica Plain’s man is being held without bail after being arraigned on charges he shot and killed a Dorchester 17-year-old over the summer.
Johnnie Bonnie faces multiple charges including a first-degree murder charge, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm.
Prosecutors allege Bonnie shot Evens Archer in the back of the head on June 29 following a late night party at a Castle Court home. Police think Bonnie ditched the murder weapon along Shawmut Avenue as he fled the scene.
Archer was in the hospital for three weeks before he succumbed to his injuries.
During months of investigation, police and prosecutors culled footage from surveillance cameras in the area, subpoenaed cell phone and other records and called in multiple witnesses to testify before a grand jury. Bonnie was indicted by the grand jury last month.
In a separate case, Bonnie was arraigned and held in September for illegally carrying a .38 Smith & Wesson, after police investigated shots fired near Ashmont T stop.
He is due back in court for the Archer case on Jan. 29.
