A state police captain working a traffic detail at the New England Patriots game Sunday sustained serious injuries when he was struck by a motorcyclist driving erratically, officials said.

The captain, who’s name wasn’t disclosed by authorities, was controlling traffic after the game when a motorcyclist going the wrong way hit him on Route 1 near Gillette Stadium, state police said.

The captain was taken to the Boston Medical Center for treatment of cuts and bruises to his face and head.

Troopersat a parking lot near the stadium tried to stop the motorcycle, a 2009 Ducati. The operator,Jose Perez-Rodriguez, 25, of Everett, instead drove against traffic to flee from the troopers, going south in the northbound lane. The captain attempted to stop him and was struck by the motorcycle, investigators said.

He faces charges related to reckless operation of a vehicle.
