Local police have ended a search for a suspicious ice cream truck whose driver allegedly approached a 16-year-old girl walking by herself in Andover Wednesday.
Andover police said on Thursday night that the case has been closed. The man's identification checked out and he said he was only looking for directions, police told Metro in a tweet.
Authorities said the teen was walking along High Plain Road near Beacon Street when she said the driver slowed down and began to call to her from the road.
The girl told police he yelled “hey” and “hello” from the vehicle, and that she ignored him. The man eventually drove away.
Police said earlier they were unable to find the vehicle after a search that included adjacent towns and local schools. There was no distinctive marking on the truck other than the word "Ice Cream" written in blue lettering on its side.
"This young woman did the right thing by calling police after an unnerving situation," Police Chief Patrick Keefe said at the time of the investigation.
