A fire that tore through a South End apartment on Saturday killed a mother, and injured her child and another victim, WHDH reported.

The fire reportedly broke out early Saturday morning in a five-story apartment building on East Canton Street.

The mother, identified by the Boston Herald as Veronica Boyd, was pronounced dead at the scene after a man and Boyd’s 6-year-old daughter were taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Angelisa Andredes, one of the residents of the building who escaped with her twin daughters told the Herald the unidentified man, who WHDH reported was Boyd’s husband, “was pacing back and forth, screaming, ‘My wife, my wife, my wife.’”

“When he got the news, he told the daughter, ‘Mom’s not coming home,’ and they both cried,” Andredes said.

Investigators estimate the blaze, the third fatal fire the city has seen this year, caused $100,000 worth of damage.
