The Massachusetts State Police are asking for help identifying the person who opened fire at a Trooper’s marked cruiser a week ago.

A Trooper in Mansfield was on patrol near Forbes Blvd. and Route 140 in Mansfield at about 2 a.m. when someone fired a gun near the car as he drove towards a traffic signal. The Trooper also said that he saw a large plume of smoke near the area of the sound of the blast.

The Trooper threw the cruiser in reverse and saw a white male wearing light-colored clothing in the wood line. He ran into the woods headed towards Super Stop and Shop.

More Troopers showed up on the scene and started searching the area. They found a Thompson Triumph .50 caliber muzzleloader with a 28” weather shield coated barrel, a Redhead brand backpack and hunting cap. They believe that these belong to their fled suspect.

Mansfield, Foxboro and State Police came up empty when they combed the area for the triggerman.
