A third toddler was removed from the foster home where a 2-year-old died and another was rushed to the hospital in Auburn.

The Department of Children and Families said that they had visited the home four days before the 2-year-old was found unresponsive and the 22-month-old was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The 6-month-old was removed as a precautionary measure.

Neighbors in the state-subsidized neighborhood heard the foster mother screaming about the unresponsive children. Medical professionals performed CPR and other life-saving methods on the girl who was not breathing. She was declared dead at Worcester hospital.

The other girl is in intensive care. The two are not related by blood, but were both foster children.

Governor Charlie Baker will host a press conference to address this issue at 2:15 p.m. on Monday.
