Walsh: Last week’s storm cost the city $10 million plus

‘We expected it. It’s New England.’

Last week’s historic snowstorm cost the city of Boston more than $10 million in snow cleanup and disposal costs, according to Mayor Marty Walsh.

The storm dumped two feet of snow on the city over a 36-hour period from Monday January 26 through early Wednesday January 28. The snowfall was the sixth largest in Boston’s recorded history. It triggered a day-long travel ban in the central and eastern parts of the state. The MBTA suspended service for a day and schools throughout the region cancelled classes for two days.
