Woman charged with uncle’s Hyde Park murder to undergo mental health evaluation

The woman charged with killing her uncle over the weekend was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation on Monday.

Yvonne Lewis, 36, is charged with fatally shooting Clive Francis in a Hyde Park home on Saturday afternoon.

Assistant District Attorney Ian Polumbaum told the court that Lewis had been staying at the Wood Avenue residence since moving back from Georgia earlier this year. She had been reclusive and acting erratically, Polumbaum said, so relatives called Francis, because of their relationship, believing that he would calm her down.

Francis was apparently trying to vacuum pieces of a broken mirror when Lewis allegedly shot him in the head. He was rushed to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he died.

Prosecutors said Lewis then stole Francis’ SUV. Using a cellphone that was in the car, cops later tracked the vehicle and Lewis to a hotel, where she was found curled up in the hallway.

Lewis will return to court on Nov. 16.
