Boston’s MBTA rolls out schedule changes for buses, trains

The MBTA announced schedule changes for the Boston system to go into effect Monday, including several on commuter lines.

The new schedules for buses and trains, which can be viewed and printed on the MBTA website, include the full schedule for the new Wachusett station along the Fitchburg Line in central Massachusetts, which opened back in September. It also includes updated arrival and departure time for weekend trains along the Fairmount, Fitchburg and Haverhill lines.

One of the most obvious changes is a big box in the lower right-handcorner informing commuters what to do in case of severe weather. Using a color-coded system, the MBTAwill inform travelers of what to expect during winter storms.

“Colors will be used to communicate the system’s service level and impact on passengers. The color for the next day will be announced by mid-afternoon the day prior,” according to newly released schedules.

Purple mean all trains are operating on normal schedules. Blue will indicate moderate scheduling changes. Orange means major changes to commuter line schedules, which will be updated online. The most-severe alert, gray, means no trains are running.
