An 11-year-old boy in Abington was shot in the face Wednesday afternoon, during what appears to be an accident, authorities said.

The shooting took place just before 3:30 p.m. at a Linwood Street home, where Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz told the Boston Globe two young boys were playing.

Cruz reportedly said he was “not aware” if any adults were at the home during the shooting. The gun was legally owned by a family member of the child.

“There’s not a lot of things we can say right now because, like I said, we’re still figuring them out,” Cruz reportedly said.

He did not reveal any further information about the circumstances. He added that it was “fair to say” that he didn’t believe the shooting was intentional, but withheld on confirming that fact as police continued to investigate.

“Obviously our thoughts and prayers go out to [the victim] and his family,” Cruz reportedly said.

The victim was taken to a Boston hospital, where is reportedly recovering in stable condition.
