NYPD Police Commissioner Bill Bratton wants more counterterrorism cops on patrol in the Big Appleto protect the city from terrorist groups such as ISIS.

“I’m going to put another 450 police officers, if we get the approval … into our counterterrorism operations to increase the ability of our officers to protect critical sites around the city, if we were to have an incident, so I have a lot more officers in the streets with the appropriate equipment to deal with active shooters or hostage situations” Bratton said on John Catsimatidis’ radio show on Sunday.

Bratton said there is an increased threat from ISIS on social media to attack police and government figures.

“That threat has expanded significantly in the 16 months I’ve been police commissioner,” Bratton said.

City Council has previously called for 1,000 new officers, but the mayor’s preliminary budget did not include money for any additional officers.
