Apparently “Bridget the Midget” was too irresistible for a Stoughton police officer.
Two-year veteran Richard Bennett recently resigned after paying a visit to the stripper at Club Alex’s last month while on duty, said Chief Paul Shastany.
Bridget, also a porn actress, was appearing at the club that night, and Bennett wanted to have his picture taken with her.
“He didn’t go inside, but he went to the back of [the club],” Shastany said. “My concern is obviously the appearance of impropriety.”
Shastany also said Bennett placed a laser sight on his department gun and then lied about it to officials when an investigation was started.
Shastany stressed that no crimes were committed, but that Bennett violated department policy and the public’s trust.
The Stoughton Police Department has been rocked in recent years by the conviction of its former chief and other officers accused in an extortion plot.
Shastany said it was because other officers stepped forward and alerted the command staff that an internal investigation was conducted.
“We have to hold ourselves accountable before we can hold the public accountable. This whole organization is willing to accept the bad news and it wants to move forward,” said Shastany, who was named chief this year.
