British reality dating show Love Island is coming to the U.S.

There will be an American version of Love Island in the future.

If you’ve watched or heard about the UK reality show featuring a group of young and single people looking for love in a tropical location, you’ll be pleased to find out that Love Island is coming to America.

According to Deadline, CBS has purchased the U.S. format rights to the British dating competition series from ITV Studios and Motion Content Group.

Love Island on ITV has quickly become a cult classic in Britain as the show follows a group of single men and women who are all living together in a tropical island villa, searching for romance.

“Love Island has been a massive success overseas,” said CBS’ head of alternative programming, Sharon Vuong said in a statement. “It’s currently seen or about to premiere in several European countries as well as Australia, and we’re thrilled that ITV has partnered with us to bring their most successful show to American television.”

You might be wondering why and how the British reality show has become a guilty pleasure and has such a huge following overseas. The answer is quite simple: The show features attractive men and women living somewhere together in a tropical villa, searching for romance. It gives viewers a way to escape reality and get sucked into the lives of other people, much like other reality competitions such as The Challenge or Bachelor in Paradise. Singles on Love Island partner up with each other and compete in a series of challenges and obstacle courses and lie detector tests to avoid being eliminated. And just like other reality shows featuring contestants living together, a lot of drama and craziness can happen during the season.

According to ITV, Love Island Season 4 was the most watched program on their channel next to the World Cup coverage. ITV said that 3.6 million people tuned in to the finale, making it ITV2’s biggest audience ever.

Love Island American version is coming to CBS

Love Island America release date

According to CBS, the network has not set a premiere date yet for the American version of Love Island, but the already popular program could land a primetime television spot next to its other reality TV shows. Season 4 of the British version of Love Island show premiered June 4, so we could expect the American version of Love Island to reach our screens by Summer 2019.
