Bronx man indicted for murder, body yet to be found

A Bronx man has been indicted for the murder of his girlfriend, whose body he claims to have thrown in a dumpster, the Bronx District Attorney’s Office said.

Miguel Bonilla, 44, of 1460 Grand Concourse, was indicted on Tuesdayfor the second-degree murder of his 52-year-old girlfriend, Juana Alvarez.

“This defendant is accused of killing his girlfriend and disposing of her body like trash,” said Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark. “We will get justice for the victim, whose remains have yet to be found.”

The New York Daily News reported that when he denied the charges, Bonilla clutched a paperback copy of Stephen King’s 2015 book, “Finders Keepers,” which tells the tale of an author’s obsessed fan who turns to murder. The cover art of the novel is an image of a tree and a wooden chest drippingin blood.

According to reports, sometime between July 25 and 29, Bonilla allegedly stabbed Alvarez in the head and chest while she laid in bed in the suspect’s apartment.

“I f—ing hate her,” Bonilla said in a videotaped confession, the New York Daily News reported.

A neighbor, Maria Nevarez, said Bonilla had threatened to kill Alvarez before.

“I used to tell her, ‘Throw him out. Throw him out. Something’s gonna happen,’” Nevarez told the Daily News “And now look! She was a sweetheart. She didn’t deserve that.”

Bonilla allegedly stashed the body in a closet for a few days before putting it in a plastic bin that he then hauled in a shopping cart and threw in a dumpster.

Bonilla was arrested in August after jumping a subway turnstile. He reportedly told police as he was being cuffed, “Detectives probably want to talk to me about a homicide,” the Daily News reported.

Alvarez’s body has still not been found. She has not been seen since July 11.

Bonilla is due back in court on Dec. 12.
