A Bronx woman was arraigned on Wednesday in connection to a violent robbery that left a legally blind centenarian on the floor yelling for help.

Sharon McNeil, 53, has been charged with various counts of assault and robbery stemming from an incident in which she allegedly mugged 103-year-old Co-op City resident Louise Signore, Bronx DA Darcel D. Clark announced.

“Robbing an elderly person is a cowardly act, but using force on such a vulnerable person is cold-hearted and unconscionable. This victim’s courage to bring her alleged assailant to justice should not be underestimated,” Clark said.

On April 1, McNeil allegedly followed Signore inside her building as she returned home from a community center, according to Clark. When the victim, who was pushing a shopping cart, got off the elevator on her floor, Clark said that McNeil attacked her and took the shopping cart, leaving Signore on the floor in pain, yelling for help.

The shopping cart contained Signore’s handbag, which held $30, a magnifying glass and her hearing aid, according to Clark.

McNeil is due back in court on June 1 to face robbery, assault and grand larceny charges, the district attorney added.
