A 20-year-old Brooklyn man was convicted on Monday for the rape and assault of an 82-year-old woman in her Brighton Beach home last year, the district attorney’s office said.

Asa Robert, 20, was convicted today of first-degree rape and first-degree criminal sexual act, following his conviction last week of first-degree sexual abuse, second-degree assault, first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, second-degree burglary and two counts of second-degree criminal trespass.

“This defendant committed a reprehensible and terrifying assault on a vulnerable elderly woman who had the courage to face her attacker in court,” acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said. “This defendant has now been brought to justice and held accountable for his actions.”

On July 13, 2015, the woman was attacked when she went back inside her home after sweeping her sidewalk, NYPD said. Robert was hiding in her bedroom.

He attacked the woman, strangled her, held a knife to her face and punched her in the chest, the DA said.

Robert demanded money, NYPD said, but the woman did not have any. After holding her for hours, Robert raped and sodomized the woman. When he left, he stole an umbrella and a bag of clothing, NYPD said, according to the initial report.

Robert is due back in court on Jan. 10, 2017 and faces up to 122 years in prison.
