King the cat has landed on his feet.
A video posted to Facebook last month sparked outrage when it showed a Brooklyn man kicking a cat viciously about 20 feet through the air.
But after receiving medical treatment and socialization,the one-year-old tomcathas been adopted, the ASPCA said in an update on Sunday.
Those who were horrified by the video that showed the friendly, trusting cat kicked like a field goal will be glad to know that King has maintained his sweet disposition despite his abuse.
“During his stay with the ASPCA, King has proven to be an affectionate and playful cat,” the rescue organization said in a statement.
The attacker, 21-year-old Andre Robinson, was arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty shortly after the video went viral. Robinson is expected to appear again in court on Monday.
“King’s case reinforces the importance of reporting animal cruelty in a timely manner,” Howard Lawrence, senior director of operations for ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement said in a release.
“It also illustrates the positive impact of animal welfare groups working closely with law enforcement, like the partnership between the ASPCA and the NYPD that helped King and brought his attacker to justice,” Lawrence added.
June is also Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, and prospective cat owners who are unable to bring King home can still choose from many other cats who need a home byvisiting the ASPCA Adoption Center.
