When the case first broke, the allegations – five teenagers strong-arming their way in between a father and daughter in order to rape her – were already awful enough. Then, the story became even more complicated, more confusing and more twisted after a Wall Street Journal report.

In that story, a law enforcement source said tothe WSJ that two of the teenage suspects told cops that the purported victim and her father were having sex together when the five happened upon them.

“They indicated that the father is the one who put her in this compromised position, and they took advantage,” the unnamed official told the WSJ, saying that when the five boys walked onto the playground, “One of them says, ‘We’ll take it from here.'”

The New York Post also reported that it obtained a video from law enforcement sources that shows a young woman sitting on the ground grinning “while young men laugh in the background. At one point, a teen asks an older man, ‘Can we have some of that?,’ law enforcement sources said. A young man then tells the girl, ‘You said, ‘Yeah.’ That’s what I’m saying, it’s lit [OK], like you know what I mean? I could tell you a freak.'”

The New York Daily News reported that the five suspects held in custody –Travis Beckford, 17; Onandi Brown, 17; Ethan Phillip, 15; Shaquelle Cooper, 15; and Denzel Murray, 14 – have been ordered released by Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson as the investigation continues.
