Brooklyn man convicted of fatal stabbing over flirting with girlfriend

A Brooklyn man who accused a strangerof flirting with his girlfriendthen fatallystabbed the man in the back was convicted of manslaughter Thursday, prosecutors announced.

Kadeem Wilkinson, 21, was convicted of first-degree manslaughter for the Dec. 6, 2013 stabbing.

The incident began around midnightinside Chicken Express at 1341 Flatbush Ave., when Wilkinson and his girlfriend were inside with Dwight Braithwaite, 26.

“After leaving the restaurant, the defendant returned and confronted Brathwaite about flirting with his girlfriend moments earlier. An argument ensued and it escalated into an altercation outside the restaurant,” a press release from the Brooklyn D.A.’s office stated. “The defendant then ran to his nearby home, grabbed a knife, came from behind the victim, who was walking toward his house … and stabbed him in the back.”

Wilkinson’s girlfriend testified against him at trial, saying that he confessed to her he stabbed Braithwaiteout of “anger.”

“This defendant senselessly took a life over a silly argument,” D.A. Thompson said in a statement.”He made a terrible decision and will now spend many years behind bars because of that.”

Wilkinson, of 2810 Foster Ave., will face a maximum sentence of25 years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for April 8.
