Brooklyn teacher who called students “devil spawn” allowed back in classroom

“They are all the devil’s spawn”

That’s what a Brooklyn teacher wrote about her fifth-grade students on Facebook in June 2010, a post which got her fired from her $78,000-a-year job at PS 203 in Flatlands.

Christine Rubino wrote the following post on Facebook only one day after a 12-year-old Harlem girl drowned at a Long Island beach:

“After today, I’m thinking the beach sounds like a wonderful idea for my 5th graders. I HATE THEIR GUTS! I wld(sic) not throw a life jacket in for a million!!”

But just last week a judge ruled Rubino is allowed to go back to work in the classroom.

Even though she called Rubino’s rant “repulsive,” Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Barbara Jaffe said she found no evidence Rubino was intending to harm the students or that the comments “affected her ability to teach,” according to the New York Daily News.
