There are an estimated 2.6 million residents living in Brooklyn, each with a story to tell about their life in the borough — and the NYPD wants to hear them all.

Launched Wednesday, the#MyBrooklynStory campaignis a social media initiative and contest encouraging residents to tell their stories through essays, photos, videos and more

“These aren’t police stories. They are stories of entire neighborhoods being engaged,” Commissioner James P. O’Neill said. “They’re about people owning and embracing the environments that shaped them, as well as the people around them, and the people who came before them.”

Residents can submit their stories through Feb. 17, and voting will close March 3. Supporting partners include First Deputy Commissioner Benjamin Tucker, Borough President Eric Adams, National Grid, the Brownsville Youth Court, Red Hook Community Justice Center and Brooklyn Nets.

“I am proud of my Brooklyn story, a story that started as a kid on the streets of Brownsville and has continued to becoming the first African-American to serve as borough president,” Adams said. “There are millions of stories just like mine, each reflecting a rich neighborhood history and brimming with the promise of a bright tomorrow.”

The stories will be shared on social media and posted on MyBrooklynStory.org, but the website is not currently active. The NYPD has yet to respond to a request on the site’s status.

The campaign will eventually be rolled out into the other four boroughs, with #MyBronxStory launching next.
