Bruins’ Brad Marchand trade won’t happen, says Peter Chiarelli

Brad Marchand is going nowhere, according to Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli.

Marchand made some within the Bruins organization unhappy when he taunted the Canucks Saturday night in Vancouver with a “Stanley Cup ring finger” salute (see above video). And Marchand openly worried that he could be the next to be traded following the “surprise” trade of Tyler Seguin this past summer.

“I think there were definitely some guys that thought we were pretty safe,” Marchand said to WEEI.com’s DJ Bean earlier this season. “And it was a bit of a wakeup call that every day you come in you’ve got to make sure you’re doing everything you have to do to stay here. I don’t think anyone really expected Segs to be shipped out that early, but it definitely took a little while to sink in.”

But Chiarelli told reporters Thursday in Buffalo that Marchand is safe.

“Let me be clear on Marchy. I’m not trading Marchy, he’s a good player and I like the way he plays,” the B’s GM said.
