THE SKINNY: The Boston Bruins continued their domination of the Ottawa Senators this season, winning for the fifth time in as many attempts and seventh consecutive time dating back to last season.

THE WINNER: Orleans native Marc Savard scored early in the third period for Boston with a quick wrist shot from the slot that beat Sens goalie Alex Auld on his blocker side.

CLOSING IN: Boston is now only one victory away from clinching the Eastern Conference and securing home ice advantage in the playoffs.

SLUMP BUSTER? Daniel Alfredsson scored Ottawa’s only goal of the game early in the opening frame. The Senators captain entered the match with just one assist in his last five contests.

THE NEXT GAME: After playing their last six games on the road, the Senators return to Scotiabank Place Saturday night for a contest against the Philadelphia Flyers.
