Boston University police Sunday were searching for an unknown male suspect they believe broke into a female student’s room and sexually assaulted her.

A woman on campus reported a man entered her student housing residence on Harry Agganis Way some time after 2 a.m. Sunday morning, attacked her, then fled the area, according to a community alert from the school’s police department.

The suspect was described as a white man standing between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches, of medium build with brown hair and wearing a dark colored button-down long-sleeve shirt and down vest.

“Students are reminded to secure their residence at all times, and report any suspicious activity to the BU Police,” the alert reads.

Police asked anyone with information to call 617-353-2110 or use an anonymous text service by texting BU, then a tip to 847411.

BU students received an alert message at 12:59 p.m. Sunday, student newspaper The Daily Free Press reported.
