Bubbly love

Here’s a question for all the guys out there. Are you ready for Valentine’s Day? I’m betting most of you aren’t. Since it’s on a Saturday this year there’s no excuse for you not to whip up a little brunch in bed for your sweetie accompanied by a glass of some liquid passion.

For me there’s no sexier beverage than sparkling wine. The sad part is that bubbly has such an iconic association with New Year’s Eve that it’s hard for way too many of you to see it as anything other than a rare occasion sipper.

We should all be drinking them more often if for no reason other than they are super food friendly. Whether Beluga caviar, cheese-smothered nacho chips or a plate of eggs and hash browns; a sparkler’s pairing potential is unlimited.

When it comes to romance in a glass nothing beats a fizzy rosé and the easy-drinking Freixenet Cordon Rosado Brut ($12.95 – $14.59) from Spain is an inexpensive charmer with a relaxed dry cherry flavour.

If you’re all about the fruit Chile’s Fresita ($14.50 – $18.55) is infused with the essence of real strawberries. It’s a candied, red berry bomb that’s wildly addictive and screams Happy Valentine’s Day.

Prices reflect the range across the country. Some products may not be available in all provinces.
