Buccaneers, Panthers, Ravens, Steelers defense dominant in NFL Week 2

Buccaneers, Panthers, Ravens, Steelers

Defense was the name of the game in Week 2 of the 2017 NFL season with the Buccaneers, Panthers, Ravens and Steelers all holding their opponents under 11 points. A look at went down throughout the league on Sunday:

Buccaneers 29, Bears 7

The Buccaneers looked rested and ready to storm their way through the NFC this season as Jameis Winston threw for 204 yards and a touchdown in the 29-7 victory in Tampa Bay. The Bucs defense picked off Bears QB Mike Glennon twice in the victory.

Panthers 9, Bills 3

Julius Peppers turned back the clock, recording two sacks in an impressive defensive effort turned in by the Panthers. Carolina held Buffalo scoreless until the 11:09 mark of the fourth quarter when Stephen Hauschka hit a 45-yard field goal. Cam Newton completed 20-of-32 for 228 yards. He did not throw a touchdown or an interception.

Ravens 24, Browns 10

Baltimore forced five turnovers in a strong home effort against Cleveland. The Ravens picked off Browns QB DeShone Kizer three times and Baltimore QB Joe Flacco threw a pair of touchdown passes. The Ravens are now 2-0 while the Browns fell to 0-2.

Cardinals 16, Colts 13 (OT)

It took an overtime session and a 30-yard Phil Dawson field goal, but the Cardinals found a way to win at Indy on Sunday. Down 13-3 in the fourth quarter, Carson Palmer hit JJ Nelson for a 45-yard touchdown with 7:38 to go in regulation. The score gave Arizona new life in the sluggish affair. Indy starting QB Jacoby Brissett completed 20-of-37 for 216, zero touchdowns and one interception.

Chiefs 27, Eagles 20

Running back Kareem Hunt is making a strong early case for NFL rookie of the year as he scored a pair of touchdowns Sunday in a Chiefs home win over Philly. The Chiefs defense, down Eric Berry, did not give up a touchdown to the Eagles until the third quarter and held on late.

Patriots 36, Saints 20

As expected, the Patriots bounced back after their opening week loss and looked better than ever on offense. The Pats scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and Tom Brady wound up completing 30-of-39 passes for 447 yards and three touchdowns, without a pick. Rob Gronkowski had 116 receiving yards and a touchdown but left the game in the second half with a groin injury.

Titans 37, Jaguars 16

The Titans looked like world-beaters in the second half against Jacksonville, putting up 31 points in the final 30 minutes of regulation. Derrick Henry led the way offensively for Tennessee, rushing for 92 yards on 14 carries and scoring a TD. Jalston Fowler and Delanie Walker also had rushing touchdowns for the Titans, who are now 1-1. Jacksonville fell to 1-1.

Steelers 26, Vikings 9

With Sam Bradford on the sidelines with a knee injury, the Vikings offense – led by Case Keenum – could never get going as they were held to just 146 passing yards. Ben Roethlisberger, on the other hand, had a fine Sunday – completing 23-of-35 for 243 yards, a pair of touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Pittsburgh is now 2-0 with the Vikings now at 1-1.
