Five people were injured when a city bus hopped the curb and slammed into a store in upper Manhattan Friday morning, officials said.

The M4 bus was hit by a van at 155th Street and Broadway around 7:43 a.m. in Washington Heights, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. A preliminary investigation suggests that the van struck the left center of the bus, which then jumped the curb and hit the front of a building on Broadway.

Two pedestrians and two occupants of the van were injured during the incident, the MTA and fire department said. The bus driver was also injured. They were taken to Harlem Hospital and St. Luke’s with injuries that did not appear serious.

The bus was not in service at the time of the crash, according to the MTA. The incident is under investigation.

Councilman Mark Levine, whose district includes Washington Heights, was tweeting live from the scene of the crash.

A witness also tweeted pictures of the scene.
