Bus service cuts coming soon? - Metro US

Bus service cuts coming soon?

With New Yorkers still stinging from last year’s subway service cuts, the MTA has decided to slash bus service across the boroughs as well — and is ready to reduce the frequency of 40 bus routes in every borough, come spring.

The proposal, which will save $300,000 per year, was voted on yesterday by a committee and will now be sent to the full MTA board.

Lines like the M22, M23, M57, M79, M86, M96 and M106 stand to be cut a significant percent. Brooklyn would see the most reductions, with the trimming of 14 bus lines, while Manhattan and the Bronx could each see seven lines cut.

The MTA defended the changes in an internal document by claiming they “represent reductions in service levels to more closely align service with customer demand.”
