The Mounties are following through on their promise to fine people for breaking laws on local beaches.
Halifax RCMP said officers slapped tickets on 319 windshields and towed three vehicles from No Parking zones at four different beaches over the weekend. Fifty-eight of those tickets were doled out at Queensland Beach, 38 at Lawrencetown Beach, 29 at Conrads Beach and a whopping 194 at Rainbow Haven.
“We don’t like doing that,” police spokesman Cpl. Joe Taplin said yesterday, but explained it’s necessary to enforce the rules so emergency vehicles can get through if someone’s in trouble.
Police also arrested two male drivers for impaired operation of a motor vehicle Sunday near Rainbow Haven and responded to several complaints of alcohol being consumed on beaches. Drinking on provincial beaches could carry a fine as high as $452.
