Byelection loss would trigger assessment: Premier

Premier Ed Stelmach acknowledged yesterday he knows the upcoming Calgary-Glenmore byelection may be a tough sell for voters.

“The most important thing and most important goal for any candidate is to get voters out, because it’s sometimes difficult to generate the interest in a by-election,” Stelmach said yesterday.

When Stelmach was asked if it would be a reflection of his government if Conservative candidate Diane Colley-Urquhart loses the byelection, he said without speculating they would wait to see the results.

“If she loses, we’ll look at the results of the election and see what the message is.

“The key is to knock on the all the doors and meet with people … because that is what politicians do, and respond to the needs of the community.”
