Calgarian’s Bollywood dream comes true

One Calgary woman is living her Bollywood dreams.

Last year, Calgarian Shivani Thakkar, 24, and Sapna Rohra won a dance contest landing them in the heart of India dancing in a Bollywood movie that is now due for worldwide theatrical release next week.

“It is so exciting to have been a part of this and the entire trip was amazing. It was really fun to be in India and I couldn’t be more excited about the release of the movie,” she said from Calgary.

Thakkar filmed two dances in the film Chance Pe Dance alongside Bollywood heartthrob Shahid Kapoor, which was choreographed by Marty Kudelka of Justin Timberlake fame.

“The fun thing about this was it was my birthday while I was down there and I got to spend my party with these amazing people. The entire experience opened some doors for me.”

But the already accomplished dancer has a lot going for her, besides the film’s theatrical release Jan. 15 and expects to be back in Calgary — she lives in Los Angeles — to choreograph at her mother’s dance studio.

She also has a small part in the upcoming Disney Step Up 3-D movie.

“This is all very thrilling, and I am living my dream but there is still so much more I want to accomplish.”
