Calgary election day – with pictures!

As of noon almost 40,000 people cast their ballots, and that was with six voting stations left to count, according to officials. That’s up almost 14,000 from 2007, which included all of the voting stations.

Julie Randall said she waited in line with about 40 other people downtown to vote but said it was worth the wait.

“I would have waited as long as it takes. I think it’s a good sign that people are engaged this time around,” she said.

By 4 p.m., the number of voters rose to 141,826, much higher than the 84,304 reported at the same time in 2007.

The 2010 turn-out represents 21.48 per cent of eligible voters. Total number of eligible voters for the 2010 Election is 665,045.

In 2004 the final turn-out was 119,135. In 2007 the final turn-out was 210,597, according to the city.
