Calgary population sees smallest rise in nearly 30 years

It appears the rush to head west to the land of milk and honey has flowed to a trickle, after the city released its 2010 census statistics.

The civic census results from April 2009 to April 2010 show Calgary’s current population has hit 1,071,515 – or an increase of 6,060 people. This represents a 0.57% population growth year-year-over-year – and the slowest since 1984, the city said – a year where the city saw its population decrease by 0.14%

Seven city communities grew by 100 per cent or more in the census period, with the primary population growth in new suburban communities.
