This generation’s equivalent of the summit series continues today when Team Canada skates onto the ice at Canada Hockey Place to take on Russia at 4:30 p.m.
Russia shut out Canada 2-0 at the Turin Olympics in 2006. Canada is after more than just redemption today — a loss would mean no chance at a podium finish.
Also this afternoon, Clara Hughes, Canada’s flag-bearer at the opening ceremonies skates in the 5,000-metre race at the Richmond Oval at 1 p.m.
Later at 6:10 p.m. Canadians Kaillie Humphries and Helen Upperton take their final two runs in women’s bobsleigh at the Whistler Sliding Centre.
