ST-ADELE, Que. – Freestyle aerialist Nicole Mulder of East St. Paul, Man., led a 1-2-3 Canadian women’s finish at the Noram freestyle ski competition on Sunday.
A day after the Canadian men swept the podium, Mulder, who had finished second Saturday, collected her third medal in as many Noram starts.
The 18-year-old former gymnast, who won in Calgary last week, improved on her personal best score of 141 produced Saturday. Her winning two-jump total was 142.29.
“My jumps were very similar to Saturday’s, but this was more mentally challenging, to be consistent two days in a row,” said Mulder.
National development squad teammate Sabrina Guerin of Laval, Que., was second in 130.62, also with a personal best score. Laurence Allard-Riendeau of Montreal scored 130.62 for her second bronze medal in as many days at the Mont-Gabriel ski resort.
In men’s aerials, Russian World Cup skier Yury Zukal won with 197.36 points.
Remi Belanger of Terrebonne, Que., followed his Saturday victory with a career-best 192.95 points for second.
“It was a pretty good day again,” said Belanger, 20, of his results and the windless conditions.
He actually led the competition after a solid landing for his triple-twisting double somersault. He then produced another solid landing with his double-twisting double flip in the second round.
Sean Butler of Niagara Falls, Ont., was third with a career-high score of 188.03, three points up on fourth-place Dmitry Marushchak of Russia.
Next Canadian was sixth-place Jean-Christophe Andre of Montreal.
