BAD GASTEIN, Australia – Dominique Maltais of Petite-Riviere-St-Francois, Que., and Drew Neilson of Vancouver were sixth in their respective races Sunday at a World Cup snowboard competition.
Maltais was first in qualifying but wasn’t satisfied with her final result.
”I’m very disappointed with my result because I couldn’t repeat my previous performance,” said the 27-year-old rider. ”A lot of things happened during the race today including some bumping and a bad start. That put me behind riders that weren’t as good as me.”
Lindsey Jacobellis of the U.S., won the gold with Mellie Francon of Switzerland second and her compatriot Tanja Frieden third. Jesse McDonald of Nakusp, B.C., didn’t qualify for the final 16, finishing 22nd in qualifying.
In men’s competition, Neilson, first in Saturday’s qualifying, was also hoping for a better result.
“I was first lucky and then disappointed,” said Neilson. ”I capitalized on falls by my rivals in the quarter-finals to advance to the next round. In the semis, I made a mistake, lost my concentration in a passing attempt and fell. It’s a bit frustrating, because I had the potential to reach the final.”
