Canucks have Blues on ropes

Canucks 3 – Blues 2

The Skinny: The Canucks scored three power play goals and killed off six penalties in taking a stranglehold on this first round series. Mattias Ohlund, Daniel Sedin and Steve Bernier tickled the twine with the man advantage while Roberto Luongo made 24 saves in the victory.

The Difference: Vancouver killed off a total of 2:21 of 5-on-3 power plays during the course of the game. The first resulted in a change of momentum in the early going while the second preserved the victory in the final frame.

The Scratch: Mats Sundin was noticeably absent from the lineup after suffering an undisclosed injury in Game 2. Most believe Sundin is suffering from either a groin or hip injury.

The Quote: “I know there’s a lot of broken hearts in Thunder Bay this week, and I just want you to know that we’re thinking of you.” Ryan Johnson dedicating the win to teammate Taylor Pyatt and the family of his former fiancée Carly Bragnolo, who was recently killed in a car accident.

The Rating: Not as well-played as Game 2, but there was plenty to like in the Canucks‚ latest win. 4 out of 5 stars.

The Next Game: Vancouver can wrap up the series tomorrow night in St. Louis.
