Police are asking for the public’s help locating a car that may have been involved in the attempted daytime abduction of a woman near the South Bay mall last week.

Boston police on Friday released a surveillance image of the car they are looking for.

The woman told police she was walking near Southampton and Atkinson streets at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday when a man in a car stopped next to her and asked if she needed a ride.

The woman told the man she was all set, but that’s when he reached over and grabbed her by the head and neck and tried to pull her inside the car.

During her struggle with the man she thew a cup of soda in his face. He then threw a handful of dirt in the woman’s face and fled. The woman told police the dirt was in the car.

Police described the suspect as a clean shaven Hispanic man who was wearing a white T-shirt. The passenger seat of the car was missing.

Anyone with information can call 617-343-4742.
