Cats no longer have a monopoly on New York City’s cafe scene — it’s time to play with dogs while eating scones at the city’s first dog café.
Boris & Horton is set to open in East Village at 195 Ave. A sometime later this year. According to DNAinfo, the cafe is named for the dogs of its father-daughter owners Logan and Coppy Holzman and will be separated into two areas.
On the human side, you can meet fellow doggo and pupper fans over sandwiches and pastries as well as wine, beer and coffee, all while watching the action on the doggie playground through a glass wall.
It all sounds like the dog lover’s answer to the city’s three cat cafes, but its operations will be a little different.
During the week, the only dogs in the puppy playground will be those that owners bring themselves — a great way for pooches and people to make new friends in a neighborhood that’s not very dog-friendly. So while anyone is still welcome to hang with the cool canines, try not to fall in love with them.
Oh, and only well-behaved doggos need apply. Coppy Holzman told a community board meeting that “We’re going to have very polite rules of etiquette. … We want a relaxed environment, so dogs acting inappropriately we won’t allow there.”
On the weekends is when Boris and Horton most closely resemble the dog version of a cat cafe. Bringing the adoptable doggos will be Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue, and even if your landlord wouldn’t allow you to take one home, the experience is sure to be therapeutic for both of you.
