Susan Sarandon offered her celebrity wattage to the Occupy Wall Street protesters’ cause yesterday.
The Oscar-winning actress, 64, stopped by shortly after noon yesterday to tour a makeshift medical station amid the mattresses laid out at Zuccotti Park. The A-lister said she swung by before catching a flight to Italy.
“I’m just here to be educated,” she said.
Sarandon is a veteran protester who was arrested in 1999 during a rally criticizing the NYPD for the shooting death of Amadou Diallo.
She also doled out a few words of advice: “It helps to focus on one thing to be accomplished,” she said, according to the Daily News. “Is everyone here registered to vote? Are you having people sign petitions?”
The actress wasn’t the only one to show her support for the protesters. Filmmaker Michael Moore showed up at the park to encourage them Monday night, as did rapper Immortal Technique. Cornel West, a well-known intellectual Democrat, stopped by last night.
“I’m so impressed by what I’m seeing here,” Moore told the jubilant crowd Monday.
