Is Julie Chen leaving The Talk?

In July The New Yorker accused the CEO of CBS Les Moonves of sexual misconduct. Moonves, who is also the husband of Julie Chen, fervently denied the accusations saying it was a “concerted effort” to take him down possibly orchestrated by CBS’s controlling shareholder, Shari Redstone. On his last day at CBS, he said: “untrue allegations from decades ago are now being made against me that are not consistent with who I am.” Is Julie Chen leaving The Talk because of her husband’s recent allegations?

Chen took a break from the show when the final accusations against Moonves were made in a story by Ronan Farrow on September 9, and rumors began to spread about her departure when she was absent from Monday night’s episode.  People began to speculate that the popular co-host of the show may be taking another stance in support of her husband and will exit altogether. Many fans were asking the same question: Is Julie Chen leaving The Talk? It seems the speculation is correct and Chen is indeed leaving for good.

“She has decided that her main focus needs to be clearing her husband’s name from accusations made 25-30 years ago and tending to her son,” a source said. The source also said she will continue to host the CBS reality show Big Brother. Page Six reported on Monday evening that she was leaving the show, but said: “a date for her exit hasn’t been set yet.” Chen also signed off from Thursday night’s airing of Big Brother as “Julie Chen Moonves” whereas before she did not use her full name.

“Right now, I need to spend more time at home with my husband and our young son,” Chen said in a taped video played at the end of Tuesday’s show. “I’ve decided to leave The Talk.”
