Cellphone initiative a success, say RCMP

It’s been over a week since Strathcona County drivers were forced to hit the “END” button behind the wheel, and Mounties say motorists are getting the message.

“We’ve probably given out less than 10 tickets,” said Strathcona County RCMP Cpl. Darren Anderson.

Anderson says media exposure and wide-spread signage have contributed to drivers laying down their cellular devices while on county roads.

Drivers caught chatting or texting behind the wheel on any county, not provincial, roads are subject to a $100 fine for first offence.
