The Celtics once again left the NBA draft lottery frustrated as they slid from the No. 5 to No. 6 spot Tuesday night, ahead of the player draft on Thursday, June 26.

It wasn’t an entirely surprising result for the C’s considering they had a 34.21 percent chance at landing at No. 6. They had a 10.3 percent chance at the top overall pick going in and a 23.83 percent chance at standing pat at No. 5. They could have done worse than they did as well as they had an 8.18 percent chance at falling to No. 7 and an 0.37 percent chance at landing at No. 8.

Cleveland was the big winner on lottery night as the Cavs had just a 1.7 percent chance at landing the top overall selection. The Cavs also struck gold in the lottery last year and in 2011.

The Milwaukee Bucks had a 25 percent shot at landing the top pick but fell to No. 2. The 76ers got the third pick while the Celtics archrival, the
Lakers, fell from No. 6 to No. 7.

The Celtics had solid odds to land top overall picks in 1997 and 2007, but also came up relatively empty.
