Chaos beyond campus

This fall’s massive back-to-school bash has mutated, sporting a new name, multiple stages and a code of chaos.

Campus Chaos will disturb the delicate balance of Northlands Agricom Friday, taking residence in not one, but three halls.

“There’s never been anything like this indoors,” organizer Mike Anderson said, adding the concert lineup jams skateboarding, illusionists and a freak show in between. “It’s going to be like an indoor circus.”

Hinder, Social Code, Rev Theory, Lil Jon and Bif Naked top the list of performers.

Naked told Metro Thursday the festival’s predecessor, which was a yearly rite-of-passage, stands as her fondest on-stage memory.

“Other than a show in Nuremburg (Germany), Ookfest was my absolute all-time favourite show I’ve ever played,” she said. “We had such a good time — I love Alberta. I’ve been playing there since I was a teenager.”

The three-stage fiesta is Ookfest evolved, Anderson said, moving the traditionally NAIT-based event to a common entertainment destination, bringing regular Joes and students from all institutions of higher learning together under one roof.

Further metamorphosis of the post-secondary festival is anticipated, Anderson added, predicting the show will eventually hit the road and go cross-Canada.

After 21 years as a main touring staple on the Canadian rock scene, Naked said she still hasn’t mastered text messaging, but she’s using online mediums like Twitter (@bifnaked) to update fans on anticipated events like Campus Chaos.

“I’ve had to be more flexible in my creativity to get my music heard and share news,” she said.

“This one is going to be great — everyone has to come out and party with us.”
