After a four-month-long investigation, police have arrested a man alleged to have brutally beaten and dropped off a Calgary man at a Regina hospital.
The victim was dropped off on April 16, reportedly weighing 87 pounds.
Media reports have said the man was missing part of his lips and tongue, among other injuries.
Dustin Ward Paxton, 30, was taken into custody in Edmonton on Tuesday after police confirmed his identity through an interview.
“We explored a number of tips and that’s what led us there,” said Det. Doug Crippen of the Calgary Police Service, adding Paxton was living under a false identity.
He has since been charged by the CPS with aggravated assault, forcible confinement and sexual assault alleged to have occurred between Dec. 1, 2008, and March 2, 2010.
Crippen called it “the worst investigation that I have entered into in my time as a police officer with the Calgary Police Service.”
Paxton was also wanted on a warrant from the Regina Police Service for one count of aggravated assault that is alleged to have happened March 15, 2010, to April 16, 2010.
Paxton will make his first provincial court appearance in Calgary Friday.
